The Director of Atlanta Braves Community Affairs and Executive Director of Atlanta Braves Foundation provides direction and implementation of the newly created Braves Care platform across all internal Braves departments and key external stakeholders to position the organization as a "valued corporate citizen." The Director ensures that the Braves are proactively responsive to critical community issues and needs while maintaining a visible and positive community presence.  Additionally, the position will provide leadership for the non-profit 501(c)3 Atlanta Braves Foundation spanning all areas of operations including fundraising, operations management, grant sourcing, selection, and management.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Responsible for managing and supporting professional development for 3-5 Community Affairs employees (1 Manager, 2 Senior Coordinators, 2 Trainees)
  • Direct the implementation of an annual plan of objectives and activities for community relations based on Atlanta Braves goals and objectives
  • Work with Marketing/Corporate Sales and Partnership departments to develop, implement maintain and evolve cause-related marketing efforts that engage sponsors and are run in conjunction with team charitable partners
  • Make programmatic recommendations, including, but not limited to, policy and action recommendations following natural disasters and other tragedies
  • Analyze current business practices with regard to service and productivity, to enhance company revenue by securing repeat business from existing vendors/business partners through partnering in community initiatives
  • Work with in-house counsel, develop and review agreements and contracts
  • Plan teamwide charitable ticket programs, and conduct oversight of same, ensuring compliance with distribution and redemption goals and protocols
  • Manage corporate contributions financial and in-kind contributions to charitable organizations
  • Oversee social media, web content, calendars, and other communication materials, including but not limited to the development and production of internal and external Community publications, newsletters, handbooks and brochures
  • Establish measurement criteria to assess department performance in relation to established goals and recommend new approaches, policies, and procedures to effect continual improvement in services
  • Direct various personnel functions including but not limited to hiring, merit recommendations and promotions
  • Serve as liaison to internal departments and player relations
  • Work with MLB Community Relations Department to recap projects and activities
  • Where appropriate maintain relations between MLBPA, MLBPAA, and Braves Alumni
  • Liaison between Braves and community civic leaders/ government. Keep informed of developments in the field of Community Affairs and maintains contact with community and business groups
  • Directs department and local communities with creating and sustaining Braves community outreach programs
  • Grant Management: Manage all duties related to grant sourcing, selection, and management
  • Collection and review of grant applications from candidate organizations
  • Selection of grant applications, advising the board of all grant applications, and making recommendations to the board regarding grant selections
  • Provides support to organizations in filling out the application
  • Ongoing management of grant recipients to ensure proper use of funding, regular reporting on progress, and compliance with all grant terms.
  • Operations Management: Oversee all ongoing operations of the Foundation
  • Administer regular board and staff meetings
  • Work with representatives of Braves organization to administer the foundation
  • Manage the website, grant application, and ongoing activities and marketing efforts
  • Directly supervise one or more staff members to support ongoing operations
  • Fundraising: Manage fundraising activities for the Foundation to ensure sustainable cash flows
  • Work with Board Members to identify opportunities with Players and Braves organization to contribute funds to the Foundation
  • Identify programs or events to help solicit funds from fans and the general public
  • All other duties as assigned

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Bachelor's Degree or substitutable background in Public or Media relations, marketing or advertising, communications or journalism
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of proven ability to create and sustain and manage effective community programs
  • Minimum of 5 years working for professional sports teams or leagues strongly preferred
  • Includes 5 years of experience working in the non-profit sector/foundations
  • Foundation management experience, including experience selecting and evaluating grant contributions
  • Fundraising experience raising and sourcing charitable contributions
  • Prior successful experience managing staff
  • Experienced presenter/outreach to community groups
  • Demonstrated ability in analysis, budget management, planning, coordination, promotions and data management
  • Ability to work cooperatively with Clubs, public and private sector constituencies, advocacy groups and players, fans and the media
  • Ability to perform research and conduct oral and written presentations
  • Knowledge of community programs and organizations, methods involved in developing community relations programs, and inter-group dynamics and conflict resolution
  • Knowledge of social media, emerging technologies, and Microsoft Office Suite
  • An understanding and appreciation for diverse cultures and an ability to work effectively and relate well with individuals of diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to work extended hours including weekends and holidays
  • The candidate must pass a drug test and criminal and credit background checks.
